Homeware & soft furnishing dyeing

One of our specialties is dyeing homewares -

  • loose lounge covers: whether it’s to suit new decor or cover fading and stains, loose chair, lounge and cushion covers generally dye well, as they are made to wash regularly and fabrics are preshrunk.

  • curtains: essentially lengths of fabric, curtains are only made more complex to dye, thanks to the addition of backing, eyelets, hooks and other accessories. Curtains often don’t have a fibre label but with our decades of experience, we can help you with that once we see them. We do need the hooks and any removable accessories taken off before hand. One unique feature to curtains is the backing. In some cases the backing can stay attached and will be dyed with the main curtain, however if it is rubber-backed block-out lining, it will need to be removed. The rubber coating that blocks light can bubble and peel in the dyeing process, often due to the unseen sun-damage incurred doing it’s job. The result of this means when the curtains are hung the light will show through the cracked and peeled areas, which can be unsightly. instead we have developed a cost effective alternative, where we cut the lining close to the top seam, dye the main curtain and re-sew the lining afterwards. It is very successful and barely visible in the final result. Talk to one of our consultants to discuss your particular needs.

  • bed linen, loose rugs, towels, table cloths, napkins, chair covers: these homewares dye well, though if they are not new we recommend giving them a hot detergent wash before dyeing. These items have been in contact with food, oils, moisturiser, deodorants and other chemicals that remain in fibres and can act like a ‘magnet’ attracting the dye stronger in those areas.

Persistent stains or fading are best covered by dyeing to a dark colour like black, dark brown or navy however cotton and other natural fibres can be stripped in an attempt to remove the original colour or stains and start from an even base colour, giving you a greater colour choice.

With all items, we offer to re-dye them a second time at no extra charge if the item is in good condition and a second process could improve the final result. PLEASE NOTE: we do not refund or replace dyed items or any accessories. Our consultants are only too happy to discuss any concerns with you before you go ahead with your order.
